When in concert with limonene, it is known to have antihyperalgesic and antidepressant effects.
Phellandrene exists as two isomeric compounds (alpha and beta phellandrene). Alpha-phellandrene has been found to be a useful therapeutic agent in the treatment of liver cancer and to have antioxidant and antibacterial qualities. Beta-phellandrene is similar in its antibacterial features. Additionally, beta-phellandrene has antifungal properties.
Phellandrene is best taken in products that also include limonene. This terpene has been found to have particularly strong antidepressive and antihyperalgesic properties when accompanied by limonene.
Phellandrene has a minty and fruity citrus aroma, sprinkled with woody undertones. Overall a herbaceous scent profile against a peppermint background characterizes this terpene.
