The structural difference
CBDA
CBDA converts to CBD through decarboxylation when heated. Raw, unheated hemp is therefore high in CBDA and comparatively low in CBD; extracts that have been through a heat step invert that ratio.
CBD
CBD is produced by decarboxylation of CBDA, which the plant synthesises from CBGA. It is the cannabinoid hemp cultivars are most commonly bred to maximise.
What that means on a label
A COA showing high CBDA and low CBD usually indicates minimally processed material. Neither figure is better than the other — they describe processing state.
CBD content is the headline figure on most hemp products, but it says nothing about the rest of the profile. Read it alongside the minor cannabinoids to understand what you are actually buying.

CBDA is the acidic precursor to CBD, in the same relationship THCA has to Delta-9 THC. CBD is the most abundant non-intoxicating cannabinoid in hemp. They are distinct molecules and a certificate of analysis reports them separately.
Is CBDA stronger than CBD?
