CBGA
CBGA sits at the head of the biosynthetic pathway. Plant enzymes convert it into THCA, CBDA or CBCA; whatever is left over stays as CBGA and becomes CBG on heating.
CBG
CBGA is the precursor from which the plant synthesises THCA, CBDA and CBCA. Whatever CBGA is not converted remains, and heating it yields CBG. That is why mature flower usually shows only a small residual CBG percentage: most of the CBGA has already been spent building other cannabinoids.
What that means on a label
Residual CBGA on a COA is a window into how far the plant got through its own chemistry before harvest.
CBG is sometimes called the "mother cannabinoid" for that reason. High-CBG material generally comes from cultivars bred to interrupt that conversion, or from early harvest.

CBGA is the precursor the plant builds nearly every other cannabinoid from. CBG is decarboxylated CBGA — the compound the plant builds its other cannabinoids from. They are distinct molecules and a certificate of analysis reports them separately.
